Duh, how did I went through this movie to the end, I don't know. Frankly, I did not expect much, but I should've expected even lower. No point about commenting the acting, it is absent. The script is poor and predictable, and only a few elements of the story raise a slight bit of interest before the end. The hero does nothing at all but all of a sudden he his the famous human mysterious "trouble-maker". The visuals are of the level of a low-budget B-movie. The apes look like puppets here and like actors with bad make-up there. The settings are quite uninspired. I recommend avoiding this movie.

If Tim Burton wanted to make a remake he should have done better. the story is yet alone not faithful to the original series. the ending is too inaccurate. the series was so much better. and humans can even talk i mean come on. you should watch the series not this remake.

Without a doubt on of the poorest efforts in cinema's history with few exeptions. A non-stop dissapointment with very few interesting moments in the entire picture. The storyline is very different than the original, and certainlly not in a good way. Basis, Mark Whalberg travels through some kinda time warp, chasing after a monkey, and crashes into the planet of the apes. Stupid, but not the worst part by far. He is discovered, captured, escapes, journeys far away, Intises a revolution, wages a war against the captures of humanity, teaches the morals of socioty to both man and ape, is rescued by his chimp companion, travels back to his original point in time and lands in modern America, in a land ruled by apes. Without recite the script line for line, it would be difficult to piece this together any better. Whilst the visuals are not as bad as you would have expected when taking the acting for example, the storyline and casting are both remarkablly laughable. Further proof that an all-star cast cannot save this movie from itself or from a demanding audince of bored amatuer film critics. Dreadfull, with little dispute.

Sure it's visually entertaining, has a great story-line, good acting and directing. Unfortunately the sole best part of this movie was the visuals. The story was what the movie was all about when it should have been more centered around the action and drama, then it would've been better (I like movies that stick to the plot, but this movie didn't have too good of one to begin with). There should've been something a bit more faithful to the original than a monkey getting shot into a time-vortex and the guy following it. Overall I really didn't like this movie that much. I did like the original because of its originality, but overall "The Planet of the Apes"'s death was only prolonged by this horrid remake.

This movie was so utterly boring, I couldnt stay awake! I dont understand what could go wrong with this film. The original was so amazing, so interesting, and so fun to watch! It's a classic! But this movie was down-right awful! I like Tim Burton (the director) and I like Mark Wahlburg (the main actor in the film) but I hated this movie! The only thing that kept me from giving this movie an F is the make-up, costume design, and the credible visuals. Rarly do I ever dislike a movie so much that I would fall asleep, but this one was so unimaginative to bear! I got excited when I heard that a remake to Planet of the Apes was going to be made, but when I saw this movie I was MAJORLY disappointed!!! If you are a fan of the series, DO NOT under any circumstances see this movie!

Why bother? When you remake a movie and make it better, I would rate it an "A". When you remake a movie and its the same, I would rate it a "C". I liked this movie. This movie tells the story of an astronaut who landed on a planet full of apes and rescuing a bunch of humans being captive of the apes. The battle between ape and human had begun and the humans have won the battle. The apes and humans lived together peacefully on the ape planet. The astronaut played by MArk Wahlberg, went back to earth but he discovered that it's now a planet filled with apes. The ending is way off but the rest of the movie is pretty good, where Mark Wahlberg battles the apes with Estella Warren. Michael Clarke Duncan makes a pretty good gorilla. Tim Burton did a fine job with the direction of the movie. I liked this movie.

This movie is one I would consider a successful remake. Very few remakes pull off the retelling of the original story successfully but this one does. In this remake is the same premise of an astronaut landing on Ape world. While Ape world was in the 40th century in the original, Ape world in this one is another planet or so it seems. Although the astronaut doesn't discover the remains of the Statue of Liberty and grieves the loss of his society, the astronaut here does find himself in Ape world's version of the Lincoln Memorial at what he thought was Washington D. C. Overall this movie is a successful remake and I highly recommend it for any video library.

I might seem somewhat biased as a Burtonite but this was truly a wonderful film. Like most of tim burton's work it was gorgeously visously stunning without using to much CgI and using Rick Baker for the makeup wich is absoluetly astonishingly real. If that isn't allready enought to make the movie great the acting is top-natch especially TIm Roth and Michael Clarke-Duncan. The story was cleverly crafted, especially for a remake. ANd it had one great suprise ending, that would be possible for a sequael but a sequel would seem to far of a stretch, a sequel of a remake is kindda bad deja vu.

CNN, E!Online, and even Roger Ebert did not like the remake of Planet of the Apes. Thanks to all of you who appreciate all of Tim Burton's films as much as I do, including this movie. I've never seen a Tim Burton film I din't like. But I wonder why Mark Wahlberg was chosen for the main role. That's not a mistake; he was great, but I would have expected someone else. I'm only 13, so I didn't see the entire old version of Planet of the Apes, though I've seen a little bit of it. This new version was directed by Tim Burton, who directed it beautifuly. It's about a man(Mark Wahlberg) who works at a space station and goes off into space to find the escape pod that carries one of the test monkies named Semo, but the man gets lost and goes through a time portal, then crashes on a world run by apes who capture humans and torture them. Obviously, these apes rule the world. The man escapes with the help of a caring female ape, along with some other humans, including a woman who's father is killed by the head ape. Now the apes are after them. The greatest scene is at the end, when there's a huge war between the Native American-like humans and the apes. I only recognize the voice of one of these apes, who is the head ape's assistant, played by Michael Clark Duncan(who played John Coffee in The Green Mile). I don't see why many people didn't like this film. It is a great Tim Burton film, along with the breath-taking special effects. Burton's latest film, Big Fish, was probably the best film he ever made, but I'm not so sure. I can't wait for his next project. But I'm still glad I saw Planet of the Apes. You will be, too.

This was the most disappointing film of 2001. I disliked it because the financial backing was available to do this film correctly, but they choose to do a mix from the book and the 1968 film. The reason the 1968 film was shot with a primitive ape society and not a modern 20th century society, was that the money was not available to make the film true to the novel. So for budget purposes they made the stone homes, horses, ect.. Tim Burton could have made an incredible film, but he chose not to. The morals from the novel would have been brilliant to include in the film. In the book, the apes take one of the humans into a lab, and using electrodes on her brain are able make her speak and talk about her ancestors and the fall of human civilization. How humanity became so dependent on servant apes that when the apes rebelled, the humans ran or became servant/pets for the apes. Even more fasinating in the book was how one character was able to rise above the ape view of humans and even rise to celebrity status, while the professor gave up his individuality and stayed in a cage, ate, slept and did not speak, he surrendered. A fascinating contrast of human reactions to a similar enviroment. Please do this movie over, and use the novel as the screenplay, it is perfect. There are so many important messages that can be made doing this film correctly. And it would be much more entertaining and enjoyable for audiences. And please use better actors, very disappointing casting for the film.

The Oscar-worthy visual effects and make-up are just phenomenal. I really don't understand so many people complaining about this movie. It's perfect entertainment and an intriguing and exciting expierience that just grasps the viewer and puts him into another world. Burton's "Planet Of The Apes" was one of the best theatrical experiences in my life and the DVD is among the most priceless in my collection. A true masterpiece.
